Baltic Media Ltd personnel training in Klaipeda, Lithuania

The second annual Baltic Media personnel training seminar took place at the end of October. This time our destination was Klaipeda – Lithuania's port city, which welcomed us with its strong winds.

Comfortable accommodation and conference facilities were provided by the hospitable personnel of the hotel Reval Inn Klaipeda.

The three-day-long training was conducted by the Personnel Training Project Manager Sandra Veinberga. Sandra not only perfected the presentations of her colleagues with funny examples of her own experience, but also explained in closer detail what has been said by each speaker.

Kaspars Zverģis,the Marketing Director, characterized the training in Klaipeda with the quotation As long as you live, you learn!

“In our daily routine we don’t even notice how smart and attractive our colleagues are. Each of us can improve their customer service culture, project management skills and other competences necessary for client management, described by different authors and approved by the society. Together we can achieve so much more!”

Aigars Apsāns,the Commercial Director, included a role play in his presentation, putting himself in the position of a project manager and giving the role of the customer to our Project Manager Aldis Saulgozis.

“In such a way we can learn to understand the needs of our clients at once,”in the conclusion of his presentation said Aigars.

After the training the team visited the old town of Klaipeda and the Curonian Spit and met new and attractive people who live there, thus getting acquainted with the Lithuanian culture and traditions.

“We are very glad that we could acquire new knowledge useful for our daily work, visit Klaipeda and meet people living there. I would like to say thank you to all of my colleagues for the lovely days we spent together in Klaipeda,says the Marketing Director Kaspars Zverģis.

* How to leave a good impression about the company while communicating with a customer;

* How to effectively manage multilingual projects;

* Effective methods of stress management;

* How to develop and maintain relationship with a customer so that he becomes a regular and loyal customer;

* How to communicate with a customer over the phone, through e-mail, Skype and in person. Presentation of our services etc.

Practical skills were improved during the video practise "Active and powerful customer service".

The seminar was highly evaluated by the participants themselves.

Jevgenija Lazuta, Senior Project Manager, "I'm so delighted that I had a chance to participate in the seminar and would like to point out its warm and friendly atmosphere."

Sandra Veinberga, Personnel Training Project Manager stressed, "Now we are even better armed to help customers with all their language and communication problems."

The word "armed" was meant both figuratively and in its direct meaning as the staff of Baltic Media had their picture taken in the museum of tanks, which is located at the seminar venue, with the WWII armoured military vehicles both Soviet and American on the background.

Baltic Media Team-Building in Majori

From 27 to 29 October 2006 the autumn seminar of the Baltic Media staff was held in Jūrmala, Hotel Majori, which not only provided an opportunity for the perfection of knowledge and improvement of practical skills but also contributed to the new team unification.

The seminar was devoted to logic of persuasion and presentation theory and skills as well as the sales and customer service.

How to be a persuasive speaker
Theoretical and practical workshops about presentation and communication skills were given by Doctor of Philology Sandra Veinberga who has educated quite a number of leading companies and politicians of Latvia on the same issues. The public image, correctness and vulgarity, provincial naivety and politically correct etiquette, uniform and the person, oppression of individuality; the way how to sit, stand, walk, greet, part and show attention
- are only some form the whole range of covered topics.

Presentation skills were practised in workshops, videotaped and analyzed for the seminar participants to achieve apparent success in their art of persuasion.

The second day came with individual presentations and live discussions based on critical analysis of David Freemantle’s book THE BUZZ: 50 Little Things that Make a Big Dirrerence to World-Class Customer Service. ..

How to communicate in diverse cultural environment
Communication with customers proved to be surprisingly different in terms of manners, style and behaviour not only in Europe and the North America but also in Riga and Daugavpils.

We can surely say that the staff of Baltic Media are much more persuasive now both with customers and in front of a camera as well as they know how to better save customers' time, maintain contacts and be kind, responsive and smiling also in stressful and busy situations but above all have learned more about each other in informal surroundings.

Ieva Krastiņa, the Commercial Director says, “In my opinion not only we gained new knowledge and refreshed the existing but the largest benefit was ideas and getting to know the colleagues. I was surprised to learn that my colleagues are so positive!”

Staff of Baltic Media Ltd. is even better prepared for ensuring the highest quality and service

From May 4 to 7, 2006, a spring workshop of Baltic Media Ltd. for education and uniting the team took place in resort town of Estonia Parnu. The basic theme of it was “Efficient Time Management in Project Management”.

Management of translation and language course projects, time management, stating of priorities, style of staff management, quality assurance and other issues were in the centre of attention of the workshop.

Provocative seminars on communication, envy, and trends of mutual relations nowadays lead by Sandra Veinberga raised discussions until deep into the night. The intense training days gave new incentives for improvement of work of the staff ensuring lasting basis for dynamic development of the enterprise, taking place during the last years.

Staff of Baltic Media Ltd. can justly be proud of the achieved results during the first quarter of this year, because the turnover has increased by 65 per cent in comparison with the last year. However, possibilities of language market have not at all been exhausted yet.

It is clear that the demand for quality translation and language training services is increasing in the market, and Baltic Media Ltd. now is even better prepared for meeting this demand.

The new employees Marika Maskaļonoka and Oļegs Djomins, who will manage office in Daugavpils, which shall be opened in June, and Kristaps Kvelde in Riga office were welcomed in the staff of Baltic Media Ltd. with enthusiasm and good expectations.

Winter workshop for Baltic Media Ltd. personnel in Fuerteventura

 Personnel from Baltic Media Ltd. attended their regular workshop, dedicated to sales promotion and Client service, in the exotic and warmest of the Spanish islands, Fuerteventura (Canary Island).  The course took place in Palm Garden hotel, Jandia, from 28th November to 5th December 2005.

The evening of 28th November was most dramatic because hurricane Delta raged across the Canary Islands, barely affecting the Jandia region however, around midnight with the wind getting stronger, we noticed that for a few moments all shops and cafes were closed and our hotel lapsed into darkness.  Sandra gave a report on location which was broadcast on Radio SWH.

However, regardless of the dramatic events of the first day, we had ahead of us a very productive, exotic and relaxing week providing us with knowledge, rest and new inspiration.  As Sandra said, it charged the members of staff not just with energy from the sun and sea, but also with information and skills which will help secure the status of Baltic Media Ltd. as leader in the market.

Heavy and essential topics

Each participant gave a presentation at the workshop and encouraged discussion about their subject.  The workshop began with Dace Karavica’s presentation on customer service standards, Aigars Apsans continued with a SWOT analysis of language and translation and his knowledge of economical theory.  Maija Mieze surprised everyone with a well thought out presentation about Client communication both in person and by telephone.  Ieva Krastina tackled the heavy, but necessary, subject of conflict at work, in detail, analysing personal and group conflicts.  Arturs Svekris was convincing on the significance of team work, especially analysing the phases of group development.  The workshop concluded with thoughts from Miks Basmanovs and a discussion about how to avoid negative elements in the workplace.

Sales’ guru and best lecturer

The climax of the workshop was a 62 question test on the subject of sales and customer service, won by Maija Mieze taking on the title of Baltic Media Ltd. sales’ guru and a cash prize.

Participants also assessed their colleagues’ presentations and from the results of the survey Miks Basmanovs gained the most points and surprised his colleagues with healthy snacks from the Canary Islands, and an interactive show.

Sandra Veinberga assessed the entire workshop and gave a resume drawn from a knowledgeable and practical point of view.

-         Baltic Media is an international company because they work in a multicultural environment and their clients and suppliers are located worldwide.  Therefore, it is important for company personnel to improve not just their knowledge needed for work, but to obtain new experience from cultural, historical and other influences, so the educational workshops take place in a different country every time.  So far in Sweden, Lithuania and now Spain, stresses the Executive Director, Guntars Veinbergs.

Thanks to the assistant

The exodus of Baltic Media personnel to far away Fuerteventura was possible thanks to their deputies – assistant Juta Vintere, Juliana Handberg and Kristaps Spruntulis, who successfully managed the office and maintained good Client service.

Riga and Eurovision

The workshop did not pass without unexpected events.  One of those was Miks’ eye trauma following a swim in the salty Atlantic sea.  At Jandia’s clinic, the registrar and the eye doctor, on reading the word Riga in the medical form exclaimed “Riga! Eurovision!” and with great enthusiasm gave special attention to the poorly Baltic Media Ltd. employee.  We came to the conclusion that Marija Naumova did a good job in putting Riga on the European map, at least in the eyes of the Spaniards.

Winner of sales’ guru title, Maija Mieze, receiving non-stop applause from colleagues and a handshake from the Executive Director, with a cash prize

Best lecturer, biology educated Mihails Basmanovs, frightening everyone about the poor air quality in Riga centre, where our office is based, but managing to give hope about how to avoid the influence of negative environmental factors
